Samyang Corporation is expanding local sales channels in Japan after having exhibited highly-functional specialty food ingredients at this year's International Food Ingredients & Additives Exhibition and Conference (IFIA).
Samyang, a food-focused subsidiary of Samyang Holdings Corporation led by CEO Nak-hyeon Choi, announced on the 22nd that it participated in IFIA Japan 2023, which took place over three days from May 17th to 19th at Tokyo Big Sight (Tokyo International Exhibition Center). During the event, the Samyang booth received more than 1,200 visitors, showcasing its success.
IFIA is an international food exhibition where new products and technologies in the field of food ingredients and additives are presented, attracting around 300 companies and 30,000 visitors from all over the world. Samyang participated in the exhibition for the third consecutive year, demonstrating its excellent technologies and showcasing specialty ingredients.
At this year's exhibition, Samyang prominently introduced resistant dextrin (a.k.a. indigestible maltodextrin), a functional food ingredient. Resistant dextrin, which is a type of soluble dietary fiber, can aid in suppressing post-meal blood sugar spikes, improving serum triglyceride levels, and promoting smooth bowel movements, making it a valuable ingredient for functional foods. Currently, Samyang produces powder and liquid types of resistant dextrin under the brand Fiberest.
During the exhibition, an on-site seminar was held to showcase the functionality and properties of Fiberest, focusing on its masking effects of off-flavor, and excellent freeze-thaw stability. Research data on various food types to which resistant dextrin can be applied based on its functionality and properties garnered significant interest from local customers. The booth displayed products of various categories to which the ingredient was applied, aiding in the visitors' understanding of the ingredient's potential.
Samyang also promoted the main product, allulose. Allulose is a sweet component found in figs-and grapes, offering a sugar-like sweetness but with zero calories, which makes it a next generation healthy alternative sweetener. Samyang succeeded in mass-producing liquid–type allulose by using its self-developed enzyme. Currently, allulose is used in a wide range of food categories in Korea such as carbonated beverages, dairy products, and sauces.
Samyang also took steps in promoting kestose, a brand new food ingredient. Kestose is a major component of fructooligosaccharides, and Samyang was the first company in Korea to successfully develop the ingredient. Research conducted in collaboration with Asan Medical Center and through animal testing confirmed its potential to improve skin condition.
Samyang plans to actively participate in other similar domestic and international events for continued promotion of its specialty ingredients. From the 30th of this month to June 2nd, Samyang will participate in Seoul Food 2023, which will take place at KINTEX in Ilsan, to exhibit its prebiotic ingredients.
Sang-hun Lee, Head of the Food Business Unit at Samyang, stated, "Participating in this exhibition holds deep significance as it expands our opportunities to promote resistant dextrin." He added, "We will continue to create opportunities to showcase Samyang's excellent technology and food ingredients.
