Samyang Corporation is accelerating its overseas market expansion by participating in food exhibitions in Japan and the United States.
Samyang Corporation (CEO Choi Nak-hyun) showcased its specialty food ingredients at the ‘HI (Health Ingredients) Japan 2024’ food exhibition held in Tokyo, Japan, from the 23rd to the 25th, aiming to secure new clients.
HI Japan is the largest food exhibition in Japan, featuring over 630 global food ingredient companies and distributors, with more than 20,000 industry professionals attending. This year marks Samyang's fifth participation in the event to understand local market trends and discover new distribution channels.
At this exhibition, Samyang introduced its representative specialty products, allulose and resistant maltodextrin. The company went beyond simple product promotion by conducting a seminar that proposed optimal sugar reduction solutions by combining allulose with high-intensity sweeteners and flavors, receiving positive feedback from visitors.
Typically, zero-sugar beverages or foods primarily use high-intensity sweeteners and flavors like stevia and sucralose. However, adding allulose allows for adjustments in sweetness and flavor. Due to the unique characteristics of allulose, it can compensate for the limitations of high-intensity sweeteners that struggle to replicate the specific flavors of sugar. Samyang not only proposed practical sugar reduction solutions reflecting these characteristics of allulose but also provided tasting samples and pamphlets featuring specialty ingredients to aid visitors' understanding.
Allulose is a rare sugar found in nature that provides about 70% of the sweetness of sucrose but has zero calories as an alternative sweetener. Recognizing the potential of the alternative sweetener market, Samyang began developing allulose in 2012 and successfully created liquid allulose based on its proprietary enzyme technology in 2016. In September, the company completed a comprehensive specialty ingredients factory in Ulsan, increasing its production capacity of allulose by more than four times, thus enhancing its business operations.
Resistant Dextrin is a soluble dietary fiber that may help promote regular bowel movements, suppress post-meal blood sugar spikes, and improve blood triglyceride levels. Samyang is actively utilizing this health-functional ingredient to develop sugar reduction solutions, anticipating a synergistic effect with allulose.
Furthermore, Samyang will participate in the ‘2024 SSW (Supply Side West)’ food exhibition held in Las Vegas, USA, on the 30th and 31st, operating a promotional booth like that at the Japanese food exhibition. SSW is a global food ingredient exhibition, with over 1,300 companies and around 20,000 attendees expected this year. This marks Samyang's fourth consecutive year participating in this exhibition, focusing on securing clients in the North American market, a key export region.
Lee Sang-hoon, head of Samyang's Food Business Unit, stated, "Samyang is participating in global food exhibitions to increase the overseas sales proportion of our specialty business and showcase our excellent products and technologies. We are also proactively pursuing local food regulatory approvals," and added, "With our recent expansion of production capacity at our comprehensive specialty factory, we will strive to broaden our overseas distribution channels."
