Samyang Corporation (CEO & Vice President Song Ja-ryang), a food and chemical affiliate of the Samyang Group, was recognized for its eco-friendly business management with a commendation from the government.

Samyang Corporation Ulsan Plant 2 (Production Director: Executive Director Lee Jong-soo) announced on September 4 that it received Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Commendation in “2020 Resource Circulation Leading Business and Outperforming Worksite Awards” hosted by the Korea Environment Corporation under the Ministry of Environment.

“Resource Circulation Leading Business and Outperforming Worksite Awards” are given to eco-friendly businesses which preemptively prevent waste in the production process by developing technologies and improving the process or take the lead in expanding recycling to promote the resource circulation.

Samyang Corporation Ulsan Plant 2 located in Maeam-ro, Nam-gu, Ulsan is a factory that produces various specialty sugar products including starch, starch sugar, and allulose and sorbitol. The factory found out how to recycle waste, which used the landfill method previously, and increased the recycling rate for 1,000 tons of waste annually with various efforts including selectively storing waste and training staff.

In addition, an air pre-heater based on heat from wastewater was installed, which reduced the use of steam in the process and decreased 663 tons of greenhouse gas annually. Samyang Corporation Ulsan Plant 2 reduced KRW 730 million annually in cost with recycling and resource circulation.

An official from the Samyang Group said, “Our employees’ efforts for a clean environment and sustainable future has paid off. The Samyang Group is seeking sustainable development for all stakeholders.”
